Girls on Film is a weekly column that tackles anything and everything pertaining to women and cinema. It can be found here every Thursday night, and be sure to follow the Girls on Film Twitter Feed for additional femme-con.

As soon as The Dark Knight Rises flooded the IMAX screen, I was convinced that nothing could eclipse the beauty of a crisp, 3D-free superhero action film. There was no blurry movement forcing your eye to one single spot on a gigantic screen. There was no jumpiness from a 3D feature flattened into 2D. It was a visual playground that made me smile with awe like a little kid discovering film for the first time. Then Anne Hathaway entered the frame. Through her skill and Christopher Nolan’s artistry, she distilled Catwoman into her perfect feline essence, employing the iconic aspects of the antiheroine while filtering out the problematic interpretations of the last 70 years.
In 1940, “The Cat” was introduced to spice up Gotham. She would be, at once, an intriguing femme fatale invoking lust in Batman’s world and in male comic fans, and a female Batman – a character women could relate to. It was a confused and problematic mix of oil and water, the male gaze clashing against female empowerment. It was a battle that reflected Batman creator Bob Kane’s own views of women (as explained in Batman and Me):

 Taylor Lautner

Reuters/Mario Anzuoni - Age: 20. Pay $26.5 million. Terrifyingly toned 20-year-old Twilight actor Taylor Lautner scores a win for Team Jacob ahead of his co-star Robert Pattinson. Both may have earned the same amount of money in the last 12 months, but Lautner has edged his vampire colleague due to getting more press and fan attention. Whether Lautner can maintain his position will depend on how his post-Twilight career pans out - his 2011 flop Abduction grossed just $82million at the box office. 2012 Boxing Schedule Looking Good!

The buzz is already starting among fight fans looking for Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Sergio Martinez tickets for the bout at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on September 15. Chavez is the proud owner of a tremendous record in the ring, namely 32 KOs out of a total 48 fights. Not many boxers can boast those kind of stats, but the Sinaloan is one of the most exciting fighter to come along in a long time.

Another upcoming fight in 2012 is Andre Ward vs. Chad Dawson. Dawson vs. Ward tickets for this fight are selling now at pretty reasonable prices, but that's sure to change as September 8 approaches. The super middleweight-light heavyweight bout at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, will likely draw a lot of interest, as southpaw Ward has been in the limelight a lot this past couple of years. He defeated Bernard Hopkins convincingly, but for this fight he's actually going to be the underdog. Ward is a handful and Dawson will need to be bringing his A game when he steps in that ring in Ward's hometown. Buy Ward vs. Dawson fight tickets and cop a load of the action, live!

Best acceptance speech hijacking

Kevin Winter, Getty Images Entertainment- Once again, Ellen Degeneres took the prize for Choice Comedian in the first category of the evening. She began her speech with a very fair question - 'What does the [surfboard] have to do with anything?' - before launching into the history of surfing for, you know, all the homeschooled kids in the audience. But her short, stalling speech was quickly interrupted by the real stars on stage: internet sensations Sophia Grace and Rosie. 'This is the best thing that's ever happened!' screamed the tooth-fairy dressed siblings, before Ellen literally threatened to pull their baby teeth out.CREATED BY: Emma Jones, MSN Canada Entertainment
